The students had an opportunity to make Quinoa salad and Guacamole. Here is the recipe for the Quinoa salad.

Su and Pam

Our wonderful student E.C.E teachers are finished their placement. They were an excellent addition to the classroom and enhanced the experiences of everyone in Area 6. Su and Pam will be back on Tuesday April 29. Please help me in thanking them for all their support.

April Updates

We have a few upcoming events. The Scientist in Schools program will be coming to Area 6. A form with more information will be sent home shortly. We will need at least 4 parent volunteers. Please complete the form and return.

Leader Days continue, please see April Calendar click here. This month our focus will be on a favourite book or story. I will read the story and he/she will answer questions about the story, such as why is this your favourite story? When do you read this story? Who reads it to you?  Thank you for your support.

Borrow-a-book has had a great start. The students are excited and interested. Please remind your child to place the book bag in the bin labelled "BORROW-A-BOOK."

Student Teachers

Su and Pam have set-up many different learning opportunities. They have worked hard at engaging the students as well as documenting the learning. There are displays of some of the activities on the bulletin board outside of the class.

March Update

Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed the March Break. Right before the break I sent home the March Calendar (or click here March Calendar). This month for leader days the students are asked to make something in the classroom, picture, structure, etc., and discuss what he or she learned.

We have two student Early Childhood Educators (E.C.E) from George Brown in the English Kindergarten classrooms.  Their biographies are posted on the classroom door. A newsletter they wrote will be going home shortly or click here: Pam's biography Su's biography Newsletter (George Brown students)

Thank you to all the families that gave us their recyclables. We finished building our airport (AM) and castle (PM) they are displayed in the main hallway display case. If you have some time please take a look. They will be up for a short time. The students planned, constructed, painted and labeled the structures. In the process, we also learned about shapes and 3-dimensional figures. Each student is working on his/her own structure.

Reminder

Please send extra clothing and indoor shoes with students. We do go outside and when and if the weather warms up we occasionally get our clothing, socks and shoes wet.

February Update

Calendars and class lists went home today. Leader Days resume tomorrow it will be a free choice item or story. Please ensure that students are prepared to discuss the reason for his/her choice in item. Some questions to consider are:

  • What did you bring?
  • Why did you bring it?
  • How did you get it?
  • Why is it special?
Valentine's Day

I handed out class lists; however, it can be a bit tricky trying to handout all the cards. If you would like to write in the TO: section "TO: My friend" that would work as well. This is a good opportunity for students to write his/her name.  If you would like to bring a treat to share please ensure that it is nut-free and made in Canada, as we want to ensure the safety of all our students.

Report cards

Report cards are going home for all the JK students tomorrow. I will be sending home parent-teacher interview request forms. A note went home last week regarding interviews last week, as it is different from previous years.

Volunteers

I am still looking for some volunteers to put together books, if you are available please let me know.
